Are you looking for an addiction treatment program that fits your schedule? You can consider enrolling in a partial hospitalization program (PHP) or an intensive outpatient program (IOP). Both treatment programs provide invaluable psychiatric and medical support while offering flexibility and fewer restrictions. They allow you to undergo addiction treatment while staying home and continuing with your work, allowing you to maintain your current schedule with little disruption. While PHP and IOP are both effective options that make the treatment process practical, they differ from each other on some grounds.

Below, we have talked about the differences between PHP and IOP treatment.

What are PHP and IOP?

PHP stands for partial hospitalization program. It is more intensive than IOP, but less so than a full inpatient rehab treatment program. You do not have to reside at the addiction treatment center in GA during the treatment, but PHP involves more weekly visits and sessions than an IOP.

IOP refers to an intensive outpatient program. It offers medical and psychological help to the patient with minimal time commitments, allowing them to continue with their current lifestyle. You have to go to the facility only for the treatment sessions that you have been recommended.

How do PHP and IOP work?

Generally, PHP involves five visits a week that can range from four to eight hours, depending on your needs and the intensity of the addiction. It is paired with other activities that can increase the chances of the treatment being successful.

IOP involves only a few short weekly visits, typically three sessions that make nine hours a week. The number of sessions and hours may vary based on your addiction. However, an intensive outpatient program in Atlanta takes more time to show results, but it is still really effective. It is paired with other methods to ensure full addiction recovery, including group activities that would help prevent feelings of isolation and loneliness.

What are the benefits of PHP and IOP?

PHP is best for anyone who has just come out of residential treatment but does not feel ‘stable’ yet. It is like an intermediary step between residential and outpatient treatment. Although there is full support from the addiction treatment center in GA, with PHP, the patient gets to keep in touch with the outside world again. Thus, PHP helps them adjust to their routine and lifestyle more smoothly.

IOP offers you great flexibility, allowing you to continue with your daily life. You can schedule therapy sessions around your work and family commitments. It means you will have your relationships intact, helping you learn how to balance your personal life and addiction recovery treatment program.

Moreover, offering a lot of freedom to recovering addicts can be dangerous as they can fall back into old habits. Therefore, we suggest starting with an intensive outpatient program as it will provide a much-needed structure to reduce relapse.
