TMS Therapy Near Atlanta, GA

For some people, medication and therapy alone are not enough to move the needle on depression. TMS — transcranial magnetic stimulation — is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive option worth understanding if you or a loved one has tried standard treatment without enough relief.

Hope Harbor Wellness does not operate TMS equipment on site. When TMS may be clinically appropriate, we coordinate that treatment through our sister facility, West Georgia Wellness Center, located in the same Hiram building. TMS becomes one integrated part of your care — not a separate referral you manage alone — while your therapy, medication management, and outpatient programming continue at Hope Harbor Wellness.

  • Assessment to determine whether TMS may be an appropriate part of your treatment plan.
  • TMS sessions coordinated through West Georgia Wellness Center, our sister facility.
  • Continuing therapy, medication management, or dual diagnosis care at Hope Harbor Wellness throughout.
  • Commercial insurance verification available before treatment begins.
What TMS Is

What Is TMS Therapy?

TMS stands for transcranial magnetic stimulation. It is a non-invasive, FDA-cleared treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. It does not require anesthesia or sedation, and most people return to their normal activities immediately after a session.

TMS was first FDA-cleared for treatment-resistant major depressive disorder in 2008, and later cleared for obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is generally considered for adults who have tried antidepressant medication, therapy, or both, without enough symptom relief, or who cannot tolerate medication side effects.

A typical course of TMS involves daily sessions over several weeks, with each session commonly lasting somewhere in the range of 20 to 40 minutes depending on the specific protocol used. Your treatment team will determine the exact schedule based on your diagnosis and clinical needs.

Metro Atlanta Access

TMS Coordination Serving Metro Atlanta

Hope Harbor Wellness is based in Hiram, GA, about 30 to 40 minutes from downtown Atlanta via I-20 West, and close to many Cobb, Paulding, Douglas, and west Metro Atlanta communities. For Atlanta-area clients, the first step is a clinical assessment to understand your history with depression or OCD treatment and whether TMS may be an appropriate next option.

Many Atlanta clients come to us because they have already tried medication, therapy, or both, and are looking for a coordinated plan rather than a disconnected referral to a TMS provider they have never worked with. Because West Georgia Wellness Center is located in the same Hiram building as Hope Harbor Wellness, moving between your outpatient care and TMS sessions does not mean starting over with a new, unfamiliar clinical team.

Virtual pre-assessment is available for Atlanta clients who want to understand whether TMS may be worth exploring before making the drive. Call 770-573-9546 to start that conversation.

Who TMS May Help

Conditions TMS Is Most Commonly Used For

Whether TMS is appropriate depends on your diagnosis, treatment history, and current symptoms. A clinical assessment is the only reliable way to know — the categories below are meant as a starting point for the conversation, not a self-diagnosis tool.

Primary Indication

Treatment-Resistant Depression

For adults who have tried one or more antidepressant medications without enough symptom relief, TMS is an FDA-cleared option that works differently than medication.

FDA-Cleared

OCD

TMS is also FDA-cleared for obsessive-compulsive disorder in adults who have not had enough relief from therapy, medication, or both.

Medication Sensitivity

Difficulty Tolerating Antidepressants

For people who experience significant side effects from antidepressant medications, TMS may be a non-medication option worth discussing with your prescriber.

Integrated Care

Depression With Substance Use

When depression and substance use occur together, TMS coordination can be layered into a dual diagnosis treatment plan at Hope Harbor Wellness.

Non-Invasive

Adults Who Want a Non-Medication Option

Some people want to explore treatment options beyond medication and traditional therapy alone. TMS is one option to discuss with your clinical team.

Ongoing Support

Step-Down From PHP or IOP

For clients completing PHP or IOP whose depression has not fully responded, TMS coordination may be discussed as part of continuing care planning.
