How to Pay for Drug Rehab: Financing Options & Real Treatment Costs
The cost of addiction treatment is one of the most common reasons people delay getting help. Hope Harbor Wellness helps adults with commercial insurance understand their benefits, deductible, copay, coinsurance, and financing options before treatment begins.
- Free insurance verification before your first appointment
- Commercial insurance accepted, including many major plans and networks
- Cost review for PHP, IOP, Virtual IOP, MAT, outpatient detox coordination, and dual diagnosis care
- FMLA documentation support may be available for eligible clients when clinically appropriate
- We do not accept Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, or Medicaid managed care plans
What Most People Get Wrong About the Cost of Rehab
When people search “how much does rehab cost,” many results quote inpatient residential treatment pricing, often thousands of dollars per week or more. Those numbers may be real for residential treatment, but they do not describe every level of care.
Outpatient treatment, including PHP, IOP, and Virtual IOP, can cost significantly less than inpatient or residential treatment for clients who are clinically appropriate for outpatient care. With commercial insurance, the realistic out-of-pocket cost may be far more manageable than people expect.
Hope Harbor Wellness is an outpatient facility. We do not provide inpatient or residential treatment. For adults who do not require 24-hour supervision, outpatient care can provide structured clinical support while allowing clients to remain connected to work, home, family, and daily responsibilities.
We will be direct about level of care
If an assessment shows that inpatient, residential treatment, or a higher medical level of care is appropriate, we will say so and help point you toward the right resource. We do not recommend outpatient care when a higher level of care is clinically indicated.
Understanding Your Plan’s Costs Before You Start
Your out-of-pocket cost depends on a few plan-specific numbers. Hope Harbor Wellness reviews those details before you begin treatment so you are not guessing.
Annual Deductible
The amount you pay before insurance starts paying its share. If your deductible has already been partially or fully met, treatment may cost less than it would at the beginning of a new plan year.
Copay or Coinsurance
Your share of the cost after deductible rules apply. Some plans use a flat copay. Others use coinsurance, where you pay a percentage of the allowed amount.
Out-of-Pocket Maximum
The most you pay for covered in-network services during a plan year. Once reached, covered services may be paid at 100% for the rest of the plan year.
The calendar-year strategy
If you have already met your deductible or are close to your out-of-pocket maximum, starting treatment now may cost less than waiting until benefits reset. If you start treatment early in the year, PHP may help you reach your out-of-pocket maximum sooner, which can reduce costs for step-down IOP when covered.
Typical Out-of-Pocket Costs by Level of Care
These are general ranges for education only. Your actual cost depends on your plan, deductible status, out-of-pocket maximum, authorization, medical necessity, and level of care.
| Level of Care | Typical Duration | With Commercial Insurance | Without Insurance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outpatient Drug Detox Coordination | 5 to 14 days, varies by need | Often copay or coinsurance after deductible, if covered and authorized | Varies by substance, medical needs, and medications |
| PHP, Partial Hospitalization | Often 2 to 4 weeks | Often coinsurance after deductible, with prior authorization commonly required | Contact for pricing |
| IOP, Intensive Outpatient | Often 4 to 12 weeks | Often copay per session or coinsurance after deductible | Contact for pricing |
| Virtual IOP | Often 4 to 12 weeks | Often similar to in-person IOP when telehealth is covered | Contact for pricing |
| Medication-Assisted Treatment | Ongoing, based on clinical need | Often covered through medical or pharmacy benefits, depending on medication and plan | Varies by medication, pharmacy, and visit frequency |
| Dual Diagnosis Treatment | Based on program and clinical need | Often included under behavioral health benefits when medically necessary | Contact for pricing |

Insurance Plans We Commonly Work With
Hope Harbor Wellness is in-network with many major commercial insurance plans and behavioral health networks. Coverage varies by policy, employer group, authorization status, and medical necessity.

Outpatient Treatment Is Not a Compromise When It Fits the Clinical Need
The right level of care is based on clinical assessment. For some people, inpatient care is necessary. For others, outpatient treatment provides meaningful structure while preserving work, home, and family responsibilities.
Inpatient or Residential Treatment
May be appropriate when someone needs 24-hour medical supervision, a controlled living environment, or a higher level of care than outpatient can safely provide.
- Requires leaving home and daily responsibilities
- May involve higher out-of-pocket costs
- Important when clinically necessary
- Not always required for every addiction treatment case
Hope Harbor Wellness Outpatient Care
For clinically appropriate adults, outpatient care can provide structured therapy, psychiatric support, MAT evaluation, and recovery planning while allowing clients to remain connected to real life.
- PHP and IOP options based on clinical need
- Clients sleep at home or in supportive housing
- Commercial insurance benefits may apply
- Step-down planning supports continuity of care
FMLA, Work, and Treatment
The Family and Medical Leave Act may provide eligible employees with up to 12 weeks of job-protected unpaid leave for serious health conditions, which can include substance use disorder treatment when the person is actively engaged in a supervised treatment program.
Hope Harbor Wellness can provide documentation when clinically appropriate and when the client is eligible. Many clients also ask their employer about PTO, sick leave, short-term disability, or Employee Assistance Program benefits that may help offset lost income.
- FMLA applies to eligible employees and qualifying employers
- FMLA is job-protected leave, not automatically paid leave
- PHP may require continuous leave
- IOP may be compatible with work or intermittent leave
- Documentation support may be available when appropriate
