What to Expect at Hope Harbor Wellness — Your First Call to Your First Day
Table of Contents
Not knowing what to expect is one of the most common reasons people delay calling a treatment center. The unknown is harder to face than the known — even when what is known is difficult. This page tells you exactly what happens when you call Hope Harbor Wellness, what your clinical assessment looks like, what your first week involves, and how your program is structured day to day.

Your First Call
When you call Hope Harbor Wellness at 770-573-9546, you reach our admissions team — not an external call center. The person who answers has direct knowledge of our programs and is trained to have this conversation with compassion and without judgment. You do not need to have all your information ready. You do not need to know exactly what you need. The first call is a conversation.
What to expect: the admissions team member will ask some basic questions — what you are dealing with, how long it has been going on, whether you have insurance, and what your situation looks like in terms of work and family. This takes 15 to 20 minutes and is completely confidential. At the end of the call, they will tell you what next steps look like, whether an assessment can be scheduled same-day or next-day, and what your insurance appears to cover based on what you have told them.
You are not committed to anything by making this call. You will not be pressured. If you decide this is not the right time or the right place, that is your choice and it will be respected. But the call costs nothing and gives you real information.
The Clinical Assessment
Your first appointment is a comprehensive clinical assessment — typically 60 to 90 minutes, conducted by a licensed clinician. It covers your substance use history, your mental health history, your medical history, your current living situation, your support system, and your goals. It is not a test. There are no right or wrong answers. The assessment exists to understand your specific situation so that your treatment plan can be built around you.
At the end of the assessment, the clinician will give you a clinical recommendation — which program level (PHP or IOP), whether MAT evaluation is indicated, what co-occurring conditions should be addressed, and what the expected duration of treatment looks like. This recommendation is explained, not handed down — you will understand why the recommendation is what it is, and your input on the plan matters.
Your First Week in Treatment
Day one in PHP or IOP looks like this: you arrive at 126 Enterprise Path, Suite 208, Hiram, GA 30141 for your program start time. You meet your primary therapist and the clinical staff on your track. You are introduced to the group — slowly, on your terms, not through a spotlight introduction. The first session is typically psychoeducational — understanding what is happening neurologically with your substance use disorder and what the treatment process involves.
The first week is primarily an orientation and stabilization week. Clinical intensity builds after the first week as you become more comfortable in the group environment. If MAT is part of your plan, the induction process typically occurs in the first few days. If withdrawal management is needed, it is addressed at the beginning before full programming intensity ramps up.
What a Typical Day in PHP Looks Like
PHP runs approximately 9am to 3pm, Monday through Friday, at our Hiram facility. A typical day includes: morning check-in group; a clinical group session (CBT, DBT skills, topic-based group, or process group depending on the day); a break; a second group session or specialty group (EMDR, family therapy session, MAT check-in, or dual diagnosis group); lunch; and an afternoon individual therapy session or skills practice group. On most days you attend two to three clinical group sessions and may have individual therapy scheduled on some days.
IOP runs three days per week. Sessions are approximately three hours each and include group therapy, skills work, and periodic individual therapy. Scheduling for IOP can often be arranged to accommodate employment.

Frequently Asked Questions — Your First Day
What if I am nervous about starting?
Everyone is. There has never been a first day where someone arrived feeling completely confident and ready. Nervousness is appropriate — you are doing something difficult and important. Our clinical staff expect this and work with it. The first group session is not an interrogation. You are not required to share anything you do not want to share on day one.
Can I bring my phone?
Phones are generally permitted at our outpatient facility — you are going home at the end of the day and maintaining connection with your life. Phones should be silenced during group sessions out of respect for the clinical environment and other clients.
What if I relapse during treatment?
Tell your clinical team. A relapse is clinical information, not a reason to discharge from treatment. We assess what happened, what drove it, and what adjustments the clinical plan needs. You are not “kicked out” for honesty about a slip. Concealing a relapse is the clinical behavior we want to prevent — because we cannot help you with what we do not know about.
How long will I be in treatment?
Duration is individualized and continuously evaluated. PHP typically runs 4 to 6 weeks before step-down to IOP is considered. IOP typically runs 6 to 10 weeks. These are general ranges — your clinical team reviews your progress weekly and adjusts accordingly. The goal is to give you enough time to build genuine skills and stability, not to discharge you at the earliest possible date.
