Why Veterans Do Better in Care Built Around Service
Many veterans come to treatment carrying more than a drinking or drug problem. Combat and operational trauma, pain from service-connected injuries that started with a prescription, sleep that never recovered after deployment, and the loss of structure and purpose that can follow separation often sit underneath the substance use.
Military culture adds its own barrier. Asking for help can feel like weakness, and sitting in a group with civilians who have never served can make it easy to stay quiet. Veteran-specific groups change that. The people in the room already understand the language, the pressure, and the things that are hard to explain to anyone who was not there.
Treatment still addresses the whole picture. Substance use, PTSD, depression, and anxiety are treated together through our dual diagnosis approach, so one problem is not left untouched while another gets attention.
PHP and IOP for Veterans
Veterans can attend each level of outpatient care at Hope Harbor Wellness. A clinical assessment determines where you start, and you can step up or down as your needs change.

Outpatient care is not always the right first step. If withdrawal needs to be managed first, Restoration Outpatient Detox, our sister program in the same Hiram building, provides outpatient detox. If you need 24-hour care, admissions can coordinate a referral to West Georgia Wellness Center, a residential program in Hiram, and plan your step-down back into outpatient treatment.

EMDR for Combat Trauma
Our EMDR-trained therapists use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing for trauma from combat, training accidents, military sexual trauma, and other service experiences. EMDR is one of the trauma-focused therapies recommended in the VA/DoD clinical practice guideline for PTSD.
Same-Day MAT Evaluation
If you are in opioid withdrawal or struggling with cravings, you do not have to wait weeks to talk about medication. Same-day evaluation for Suboxone or Vivitrol is available, and medication is combined with therapy rather than handled on its own.
Groups With Other Veterans
When other veterans are in treatment at the same time, we run veteran-specific groups where you can talk about deployment, loss, and the transition home with people who were there. When there are not enough veterans in care for a group, service-related concerns are worked through in your individual therapy sessions.
Using TRICARE or VA Benefits for Rehab
TRICARE through Humana Military
Hope Harbor Wellness is an in-network TRICARE provider through Humana Military, which administers TRICARE in Georgia. TRICARE Prime members usually need a referral from their primary care manager before starting treatment. TRICARE Select members generally do not. VA Community Care Network
Hope Harbor Wellness is also in-network with the VA Community Care Network. The VA decides whether you are eligible for community care and must authorize treatment before it begins, so the first step is usually a conversation with your VA care team. Near Dobbins Air Reserve Base and Across Northwest Georgia
Hope Harbor Wellness is in Hiram, in Paulding County, about 25 to 30 minutes from Marietta via Dallas Highway depending on where you start. Service members, reservists, and families connected to Dobbins ARB can reach in-person PHP or evening IOP without driving into central Atlanta.
Veterans elsewhere in Cobb, Paulding, Douglas, Bartow, and Carroll counties attend in person, and veterans farther out in Georgia can join through Virtual IOP.
