Does Meritain Health Cover Drug Rehab in Georgia?
Hope Harbor Wellness is not in-network with Meritain, but we accept Meritain out-of-network benefits for outpatient addiction and mental health treatment in Georgia.
We would rather say that plainly than let you find out after your first bill. Out-of-network does not mean uncovered, and for a number of plans the difference is smaller than people assume. It does mean the numbers are worth checking before you start.
Adults 18 and older with commercial insurance. We are an outpatient provider only, and we do not accept Medicaid or Medicare.
Meritain Plans Often Run on the Aetna Network
Meritain is a third-party administrator owned by Aetna, and many Meritain plans use an Aetna network for provider access. Your employer designed the plan, so the details vary considerably between Meritain groups, and the only reliable way to know what your plan covers is to check the plan itself rather than the logo on the card.
Because Meritain plans are self-funded by employers, out-of-network terms range from generous to nonexistent. We have seen both. A benefits check takes a few minutes and removes the guesswork.
What Out-of-Network Actually Costs
Five things determine what you pay. None of them are guesses once we have your plan details in front of us.
| What it is | How it affects your cost |
|---|---|
| Out-of-network deductible | Usually separate from and higher than your in-network deductible. What you have already paid in-network this year typically does not count toward it. |
| Coinsurance | Out-of-network coinsurance is generally a larger share than in-network. A plan paying 80% in-network might pay 50% or 60% out-of-network. |
| Allowed amount | Your plan pays a percentage of what it considers reasonable, not necessarily of what is billed. The gap between those two figures is the part people are surprised by. |
| Out-of-pocket maximum | Out-of-network care often has a separate, higher ceiling, and on some plans it does not count toward the in-network maximum at all. |
| Prior authorization | Still required for PHP and IOP on most plans, in-network or not. We request it during admissions. |
Ask About a Single Case Agreement
When a plan cannot offer a suitable in-network provider for the level of care you need, it will sometimes authorize an out-of-network provider at in-network rates for one specific client. These are not guaranteed and not every plan offers them, but they are worth requesting, and we will pursue one on your behalf where it is plausible. Most people have never heard of this, which is why it is on this page.
Get the Actual Number Before You Decide
We verify your Meritain benefits while you are on the phone and give you the estimate in writing. No cost, no obligation.
What Treatment Is Available
Out-of-network benefits can be applied to any of our outpatient levels of care. A clinical assessment determines which one fits.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
Full-day clinical programming five days a week while you live at home. The most structured outpatient level.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
Group and individual therapy several days a week, scheduled so most people can keep working.
Virtual IOP
The same IOP programming by secure telehealth, for clinically appropriate adults anywhere in Georgia.
Medication-Assisted Treatment
Suboxone or Vivitrol combined with therapy and clinical monitoring.
If You Are In-Network With Us and Do Not Know It
Plenty of people carry a second plan, or a plan whose behavioral health is administered by a company we are contracted with. Before you accept out-of-network rates, it is worth checking these.
Plans We Are In-Network With
- Blue Cross Blue Shield and Anthem
- Cigna and Evernorth
- Optum and UnitedHealthcare
- Oscar Health
- TriCare through Humana Military
- VA Community Care Network
If you have coverage through any of these, or a spouse or parent does, your cost will be substantially lower. Tell us during verification and we will check both.
Who We Can and Cannot Treat
- Adults 18 and older only.
- Commercial insurance only. We do not accept Medicaid or Medicare.
- Outpatient care only. We do not provide residential or overnight inpatient treatment, though we will help you find a referral if an assessment indicates you need it.
- Detox comes first when it is needed. If medically supervised withdrawal is indicated, we coordinate that before outpatient programming begins.
- Virtual IOP is not right for everyone. A clinical assessment determines whether telehealth suits your situation.

Common Questions About Meritain Coverage
Are you in-network with Meritain?
No. Hope Harbor Wellness is not in-network with Meritain Health. We do accept Meritain out-of-network benefits, and we will tell you what that is likely to cost before you commit to treatment.
How much more does out-of-network treatment cost?
It depends entirely on your plan. Some plans cover out-of-network care at rates close to in-network; others cover very little. The only way to know is to verify your specific benefits, which we do while you are on the phone and at no cost.
What is a single case agreement?
When a plan has no suitable in-network provider available, it will sometimes authorize an out-of-network provider at in-network rates for a specific client. These are not guaranteed and not every plan offers them, but they are worth pursuing and we will request one where it is plausible.
Can I use out-of-network benefits for Virtual IOP?
Usually yes, if your plan covers telehealth behavioral health and includes out-of-network benefits. We confirm both during verification.
What if I cannot afford the out-of-network cost?
We offer CareCredit financing and private pay. If neither works, we will point you toward Georgia resources that may fit better, including the state crisis line at 1-800-715-4225. We would rather help you find the right option than enroll you in one you cannot sustain.
