Does VA Community Care Cover Rehab in Georgia?

Yes. Hope Harbor Wellness is in-network with the VA Community Care Network, so eligible veterans can receive outpatient addiction and mental health treatment in Hiram or by Virtual IOP instead of waiting on care at a VA facility.

The VA decides eligibility and must authorize care before treatment begins. Admissions can help you through that process from the first call.

  • PHP, IOP, Virtual IOP, and MAT for veterans the VA approves for community care.
  • EMDR-trained therapists for combat and service-related trauma.
  • Same-day evaluation for Suboxone or Vivitrol.
  • We bill the VA directly for authorized care.

How VA Community Care Works for Veterans in Georgia

VACCN exists so that veterans facing long drive times or long wait times at a VA facility can be treated in their own community. Eligibility is determined by the VA rather than by us, and typically turns on drive-time and wait-time standards or on whether the specific care you need is available at your VA medical center.

Once you are approved, the VA sends an authorization that lists which services are covered and for how long. We track that authorization and coordinate renewals with the VA so treatment is not interrupted.

If you are also comparing the clinical side of care, our addiction treatment for veterans page explains how PHP, IOP, EMDR, MAT, and dual diagnosis care fit together.

What VA Community Care Costs Veterans

When the VA authorizes your care, Hope Harbor Wellness bills the VA directly. Community care providers are not permitted to bill veterans for care the VA has authorized, so you will not receive a bill from us for that treatment.

Depending on your VA eligibility, the VA may charge a copay for community care, the same as it would for care at a VA facility. That bill comes from the VA, and your VA care team can tell you whether it applies to you.

Care that falls outside your authorization, whether it is a different service or treatment that continues after the authorization ends, is not covered by the VA. We watch those dates closely and request renewals before they run out.

Who We Can and Cannot Treat

Being clear about this up front saves people a wasted phone call.

  • Adults 18 and older only.
  • VA authorization is required for VACCN care. Admissions can explain the process, but the referral and authorization must come from the VA.
  • Outpatient care only. When an assessment shows 24-hour care is needed, admissions can coordinate a referral to our sister facility, West Georgia Wellness Center, a residential program in Hiram.
  • Detox comes first when it is needed. Restoration Outpatient Detox, in the same building, manages withdrawal before outpatient programming begins.
  • Virtual IOP is not right for everyone. A clinical assessment determines whether telehealth is appropriate for your situation.

Frequently Asked Questions About VACCN Coverage

Do I need a VA referral before starting treatment?
Yes. VACCN care requires authorization from the VA before treatment begins. We can walk you through requesting it, but the referral has to come from the VA.
Which VA facility handles referrals for this area?
Most veterans in the northwest metro are served through the Atlanta VA Health Care System. Your VA care team or a patient advocate can begin a community care referral.
Will I owe Hope Harbor Wellness anything for VA-authorized care?
No. For care the VA has authorized, we bill the VA directly. Depending on your VA eligibility, the VA may charge a copay, the same as it would for care at a VA facility, and that bill comes from the VA rather than from us.
Does VACCN cover medication-assisted treatment?
Yes, when the authorization covers substance use disorder treatment and a qualified provider determines it is clinically appropriate.
Can I use Virtual IOP through VA Community Care?
Often yes, when the authorization covers outpatient behavioral health and a clinical assessment finds telehealth appropriate for your situation.
What if the VA does not authorize community care?
You may still have options. We are in-network with TRICARE through Humana Military and several commercial plans, and we offer CareCredit financing and private pay. If none of those work, we will point you toward Georgia resources that may fit better, including the Georgia Crisis and Access Line at 1-800-715-4225.
