      Addiction Therapy FAQs

Addiction therapy uses counseling, behavioral therapies, and support groups to help individuals overcome substance abuse. It addresses the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of addiction, promoting lasting recovery and healthier coping strategies.

Addiction therapy typically begins with an assessment to understand your unique situation. From there, a personalized treatment plan is developed, which may include individual sessions, group therapy, and ongoing support to ensure sustained recovery.

Therapy addresses triggers, develops coping strategies, improves relationships, boosts self-esteem, and helps prevent relapse, supporting long-term recovery.

Yes, many insurance plans cover addiction therapy. Check with your provider for details, or fill out our online insurance verification form.

The Ten-Minute Advantage — Why Proximity Matters for IOP Completion

IOP completion rates — attending the full recommended course of treatment rather than dropping off early — are one of the strongest predictors of long-term recovery. And one of the consistently documented predictors of early IOP dropout is commute burden. Clients who face 30 to 45-minute drives on top of three-hour clinical sessions, three times per week, are more likely to miss sessions when life complications arise, and more likely to rationalize stopping early when the cumulative time burden feels unsustainable. Ten minutes is not 30 minutes. The difference is meaningful.

Dallas and Paulding County residents have historically had to make that 30 to 45-minute drive to Marietta or Atlanta for accredited IOP. They no longer do. Hope Harbor Wellness in Hiram — 10 minutes east on GA-278 — is your IOP, not a distant resource.

IOP Schedule for Dallas Area Residents

Morning IOP (9am–noon, 3 days/week): For Dallas residents who work afternoon or evening shifts, or who have childcare available during school hours, morning IOP allows treatment before the workday begins or during school hours. Return home by noon — the afternoon and evening are yours for family, work, and the real-life application of what you are learning in treatment.

Evening IOP (5:30–8:30pm, 3 days/week): For Dallas-area residents working standard business hours, the evening schedule allows full-time employment during the day and treatment in the evening. Ten minutes home at 8:30pm. Many clients tell no one at work — you are simply unavailable three evenings per week.

Virtual IOP: All IOP components via telehealth from your Dallas home. For clients with scheduling constraints or transportation challenges, Virtual IOP provides equivalent programming without the commute.

What the Clinical Programming Covers

CBT group sessions targeting the automatic thought sequences that precede substance use. DBT skills groups across all four modules — mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness — with direct application to addiction recovery scenarios. Process groups for interpersonal work. Psychoeducation on addiction neuroscience, relapse prevention, co-occurring mental health, and community recovery resources. Individual therapy with your primary therapist once weekly within the IOP schedule. MAT prescriber check-ins embedded in the schedule if you are on buprenorphine or Vivitrol. Dual diagnosis psychiatric care from day one.
