  1. Ask the safety question. “Am I thinking about hurting myself.” If yes, call 911 or 988 now.
  2. Change posture. Sit down with your back supported, feet on the floor, shoulders relaxed if possible.
  3. Do one breathing cycle that is easy. Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds. Exhale slowly for 6 seconds. Repeat for 2 minutes.
  4. Ground in the room. Name 5 things you can see, 4 you can feel, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, 1 you can taste.
  5. Hydrate. Sip water. Crying is physically draining and dehydration increases dizziness and panic sensations.
