Introduction to Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

If you are struggling with substance use disorder, a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) can provide the structure and support you need to start living a healthier, more productive life. PHP is a type of outpatient treatment that can offer many of the same benefits as inpatient care, but allows you to live at home and continue working or going to school while you receive treatment.

PHP Programs usually include group therapy, individual counseling, and other therapeutic activities like art therapy. Treatment is typically provided for five to seven hours daily, four to five days per week. The number of days and hours you participate in PHP will depend on your individual needs and progress in treatment.

A partial Hospitalization Program can be an effective treatment option for those struggling with mild to moderate substance use disorder. It can also be a step down from inpatient care for those who have completed a residential treatment program and are ready to start rebuilding their lives in the outside world.

If you or someone you love is struggling with substance abuse, contact a treatment provider today to learn more about PHP and other treatment options.

What to Expect in a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

When you enter PHP, you will work with our treatment team to create a personalized treatment plan. This plan will be based on your needs and goals for treatment. The length of time you stay in PHP will depend on your progress in treatment and your ability to maintain sobriety in the outside world.

You can expect to participate in group therapy, individual counseling, and other therapeutic activities several hours daily, four to five days per week. Treatment may also include case management services. Case management services can help you connect with resources in the community, such as housing or job training programs.

After completing PHP, you will transition to a less intensive level of care, such as outpatient treatment or sober living. You may also be able to participate in an aftercare program, which can provide ongoing support and accountability as you continue your recovery journey.
